and the guardian unlimited looks at the world's first black jesus film, 'son of man', which depicts jesus as an african revolutionary fighting oppression in contemporary africa.
i wonder if these are the start of a new breed of jesus movies that show him as someone a lot stronger and more radical, with real transformative power that gets rid of the soppy 'gentle-jesus'meek-and-mild' rubbish that's been around too long...
whatever, they're bound to produce not a few discussion groups when they finally arrive here.

I haven't seen these movies (nor heard of them shamefully), but I can't help but think how this will be portrayed for non-Christians who are not happy with the explanations and so-called contradictions they find in the Bible. Although it is important to show Jesus as a strong and charismatic passionate man, perhaps it will make people worried again about the old fear of negative judgement that comes (arguably - depending how you look at it) with Christianity and cause them to be disinterested in who, from what I can gather, non-Christians see as the 'nice approachable one'?
I'm sure this argument is easily pulled to bits though!
not having seen the movies either yet bree, its hard to tell, but it will certainly be interesting to see the public reaction.
ben witherington has also just posted on the movie here http://tinyurl.com/c2yaz
